From conferences straight into executive search. Roman Slovinec, founder of JOBS by EBCG, explains in an open interview how the idea for a platform connecting companies with top leaders was born naturally. Why it is no longer enough to be “just another job portal,” how trust and personal relationships play a key role, and what makes JOBS by EBCG different in today’s fast-changing world of C-level positions.
Roman, how did the idea of creating JOBS by EBCG actually come about? Was it a gradual process, or was there a specific moment when you said within the company – we have to do this?
The idea came about completely naturally. For more than 15 years, we’ve been organizing conferences for C-level managers, and during that time we’ve met thousands of people personally. We listened to their stories – about how they were looking for new opportunities, wanted to change their careers, or on the other hand, how companies were searching for leaders who would help move their business forward. At a certain point, it was clear to me that we had both the trust and the network to create a unique platform that connects leaders with new opportunities.
In the beginning, we received a lot of help from Juraj Lovas, whom we met in a coworking space and who brought extensive experience in Executive Search. During the first 18 months, we worked together to set up processes and build the basic pillars of the service. Later, Juraj decided to fully dedicate himself to his own company and training activities, so our cooperation ended.
We then further developed the processes, implemented artificial intelligence, and built our own team of experienced in-house experts. Figuratively speaking, this “child” had two parents – and today it has grown up, stands on its own feet, and operates independently.
You’ve been in contact with top managers for many years. How do these relationships help you in building the platform? And what does “connecting the dots” personally mean to you?
I personally see JOBS by EBCG as a natural continuation of what I’ve been doing for years – connecting people and finding synergies. I’ve met hundreds of top managers, heard their challenges, plans, and ambitions. That gives me a unique insight into what leaders need today and how we can help them.
“Connecting the dots” for me means not just connecting a company with a manager, but creating situations where both sides grow – the business moves forward, and the leader finds new fulfillment in their work. Very often, it’s not just about finding a job or filling a position. Sometimes a manager is looking for an investor, sometimes an owner is considering selling the company, and other times a company wants to enter new markets. That’s exactly where I can use my contacts and experience to connect them with the right people.
That’s why JOBS by EBCG is not just about technology, but also about trust and personal relationships I’ve built. And I believe that’s the reason why our platform has such a strong impact.
When you launched the platform, what were your original goals? And how has this vision evolved along with the needs of the C-level community that you’ve been connecting for more than 15 years?
At the beginning, our main goal was to provide the C-level community with a space where they could safely and reliably connect with career opportunities. From the start, we didn’t see JOBS by EBCG as just another job portal, but as a natural extension of our conferences and the community we’ve been building for more than 15 years.
We realized that you won’t find such jobs on Profesia. And traditional headhunting works in a way that consultants spend hours on “old-school” cold calling dozens of contacts asking whether they’re interested in a change. We do it completely differently – thanks to our platform, we know exactly who is looking for what. The client gets a list of relevant candidates within just a few days, without wasting time and with higher accuracy.
There are many job portals on the market. How do you ensure that the offers on JOBS by EBCG will be high-quality, relevant, and trustworthy for top managers?
Again, it comes down to trust. We don’t focus on quantity, but on quality – ensuring that managers on our platform encounter only opportunities that match their level and experience.
We maintain this standard in two ways. First, we work with companies we know personally and that are part of our conference community. Second, we use our network – we know who’s who and what kinds of leaders companies are truly looking for. This allows us to filter and bring only those opportunities or candidates that are trustworthy and genuinely interesting.
The C-level environment is changing very quickly – new technologies, interim positions, pressure for flexibility. How do you respond to these changes, and in what way is JOBS by EBCG different from ordinary job portals?
The working environment for C-level managers is changing faster today than ever before – from digitalization and artificial intelligence to the growing pressure for flexibility and interim roles. That’s why we designed JOBS by EBCG not only as a place to respond to current needs, but also as a platform able to anticipate what’s coming.
My advantage is that I’m in constant contact with top leaders – whether at conferences or through personal conversations. This allows me to pick up signals very early. And we transform those signals into the platform: adding new forms of cooperation, opening space for interim managers, and introducing topics that are critical for leaders both today and tomorrow.
What’s also unique is that behind the platform stands a real network of relationships. We know people personally – we know who’s searching and who’s being searched for. That’s a difference other portals cannot offer. For managers, it means access to opportunities that will never appear on a standard job portal. Can you share some specific success stories where JOBS by EBCG helped companies and managers find the right match?
This year, thanks to improved processes and our new website, we’ve been more successful in connecting companies with the leaders they truly need. We’ve already successfully filled several top positions – CFO, CEO, but also IT Director, Head of Controlling, and even a personal assistant for C-level management. Naturally, specific names remain confidential, because discretion in this environment is absolutely key.
We have an experienced Executive Search team that thoroughly understands the needs of both our clients and candidates. Thanks to that, we fill an average of two positions per month, always emphasizing the quality of the match and long-term value.
